Title - cockatoos and pigeons Cockatoo

Cockatoo Cockatoos and other parrots have nut or seed crunching bills and also use them as an extra limb or grappling hook for clambering in trees. Their feet with two toes facing forward and two back (known as 'zygodactyl') enable cockatoos to have a very strong grasp, and to manipulate objects

We have two species of 'white' cockatoo here, the Moluccan or Salmon Crested and the Umbrella or White. In the recent past all cockatoo species outside Australia were sought after for the pet trade. The present and more serious concern is tree felling and forest clearance, particularly in Indonesia. We hope to breed both species here as part of European Zoo breeding programmes.
